The party was in full swing at Rose Lodge Care Home as they hosted the official opening of their newly installed bar. It was a real knees up as residents, staff and families enjoyed a tipple from the fully-stocked bar and a sing-along on the karaoke.
The home served up a selection of ‘pub grub’ and snacks and Jean McReady, the daughter of one of the home’s residents, entertained everyone with her keyboard playing.
The bar, named ‘Zimmers Bar’ after a vote by residents and families, has its very own pub sign and street lamp to add to the nostalgic feel. ‘Zimmers’ has it’s very own traditional wooden carved bar and bar stools, decorative beer and spirit bottle pumps and has been wall papered to look as though there are shelves containing rows of bottles to add to a realistic bar environment.
Nearby pubs kindly donated nostalgic pub paraphernalia to give the bar it’s authentic feel. The home’s Activities Coordinator plans to use the bar for themed events such as quizzes and ‘pie & peas’ nights.
Manager Nicola Wheatley said: “Our coffee shop is very popular with residents and families so we thought the addition of a bar would be perfect for creating another cosy and welcoming space for them to socialise.”
“Many of our residents enjoyed socialising in local pubs so this allows them to enjoy a night out at the bar in the comfort of their own home.”
“The opening night was a big success. It was a fantastic night for all involved, we had so many compliments on the bar and everyone said they had a brilliant time. The party was a great way to get everyone socialising and having fun, it felt like a real family get-together and we hope to host similar bar nights regularly from now on.”
The care home also has a beauty room, coffee shop and indoor sensory garden and provides care for up to 54 residents who require residential or dementia care.
