Newton Aycliffe Youth Women 2 v Hebburn Involve 2
It’s early in the season but this was a top of the table clash with Aycliffe hosting the current league leaders. Hebburn were first to score, an unlucky deflection let in the Hebburn striker who finished well from a tight angle. This gave Aycliffe the boost they needed and they were now on the front foot. Annabelle and Jordan were now pulling the strings in midfield, Annabelle drove the ball out of the Aycliffe half before putting Kate through on goal, who calmly slotted in the equaliser. Next up, Jordan with a defence splitting ball, again setting Kate up for her second.
Second half was much tighter with both teams coming close, Hebburn then equalised from a corner making for a nervy final 15 minutes. In the final minutes of the game Aycliffe came close on a number of occasions, but it wasn’t to be, final score 2-2.
POM was Carla, a strong display, breaking up play and allowing Aycliffe to counter attack.
Billingham Town 2 v 3 Newton Aycliffe U23’s
Aycliffe started very badly and inside the first 15 minutes found themselves 2-0 down, from this point they dominated the game, a good through ball set James Hardy 1v1 with the keeper and he calmly slotted home 2-1 half time
Second half Aycliffe created several good chances but either Billingham got a body on the line or we shot just wide. Then a free kick awarded 30 yards out, Jordan Wintersgill forced the keeper to save, and saved again, but James Hardy slotted to level the game.
The game was won with the best piece of football in the game, involving 8 players of the team passing the ball around Billingham, for Jon Hardy, on the over lap, who found the bottom corner of the net to put us in front. With 90 seconds on the clock Aycliffe went to sleep and let Billingham in behind, but a brilliant goal line clearance by Cameron Nicholson saved us to take the 3 points.
