The under 12 girls travelled to Darlington to compete in the prestigious Spraire Lasses Tournament. Teams travelled from across the North East to Blackwell Meadows the home of Darlington Rugby Club. A very hot afternoon tested the girls fitness and stamina as they cruised through the group stages winning all 3 games without conceding a goal.

The Q/Final was against host club Spraire, and there was nothing between the teams. As the game entered the final minute Aycliffe grabbed the important winning goal. On to the S/Final to meet Coast FC, who had travelled down from Whitley Bay and had won their group.

The majority of the chances fell to Aycliffe but the Coast FC defence held firm until mid way through the second half when Aycliffe scored to take them into the Final. Aycliffe met Cleveland Jnrs in the final, a team they had already beaten 2-0 in the group stages, but the heat and the efforts of the girls were now beginning to show and the game was played end to end. With extra time and penalties looming it was Cleveland who won a corner and as it came into the box it fell to their striker to calmly slot into the corner for the winning goal.

Everyone of the girls who make up the squad played their part in an exciting and hugely enjoyable day for the large following of family and friends. To go to their first tournament and come away as runners up shows how much girls football has progressed in Newton Aycliffe

We also have under 11 (current year 5) and under 10 (current year 4) girls teams that still have places available in their squads. If you are interested contact Berni 07939 045242
