The season is definitely warming up even if the weather isn’t. With most of Newton Aycliffe Youth’s football teams in action over the weekend, there were some fantastic performances, lots of goals scored with young people representing our town with a smile on their face.

Billingham Synthonia 5 – 8 U14’s Eagles.

Sunday’s game was played on a very small pitch which made for an end to end exciting game to watch. Aycliffe were on the front foot and managed to score early in the first half. Billingham equalised but that seemed to spur Aycliffe on, scoring another 2 goals. The Eagles looked very accomplished and threatening, playing great football, passing and moving.

Billingham had a lad playing on the left who was big and strong but could also play good football. He went on to score a hat trick and it turned out to be his birthday too! Aycliffe must have known as at times we gave him more space than we should, but as the game went on we learned to close him out.

After a few goals and end to end football the game was poised at 4-4. In times gone by, the Eagles may have let their heads go down at this point, but not today. The lads pushed on and did what they do best, play attractive football from the back. The final score was 8-5 to Aycliffe. Some fantastic performances today from a number of players.

MOM Joey Howarth. Goals scored by, Joey Howarth x4, Joe Halford x2, Jamie Mullen x1 and Callum North x1.

Well done everyone today.

U13’s Girls 7 – 2 Deerness Valley

Deerness Valley were visitors to the Oakleaf to play our under 13 girls, as they are struggling for players they could only play 9 girls so Aycliffe decided to play a 9v9 game. This meant a lot of switching of positions and formation but the girls coped well even though Deerness started the better side. With 4 goals from Hattie and 1 from Alex we got to half time 5-0. More changes in the second half with lots of girls playing out of position we added goals from Alex and a first goal from Gracie our newest and one of our youngest players to go 7-0 up.

In the final 10 minutes Deerness got their reward for never giving up and scored 2 quick goals to give a final score 7-2. Well done girls playing the game in the right spirit and respecting the opposition who had no opportunity for substitutes.

Deerness 2 – 4 U11’s Girls

A match where both teams hadn’t won a game and where our opponents had never scored a goal, was always going to be exciting. Both teams were out to prove why they got into the premiership. Aycliffe started brightly and were first to open up the scoring with a goal from Heidi but Dearness quickly got one back.

The U11’s Girls continued to work hard and keep pushing and were rewarded with a goal from Enya. End to end action and excited spectators from both teams saw a deflection slotted in by Daniella. Lots of great saves again this week from Keira kept our opponents frustrated but a ball well over the back line seemed to make its way back into play and in the net for Dearness. Not leaving it there, Aycliffe pushed on and Enya scored for her second of the match. A great performance from the girls and lots to build and improve on in training.

U8s – Eagles 5 vs 0 Swallwell Jnrs

Slow start from the boys today to see the first half out at 1-0. Both teams playing good football and could have been a different result if the team had taken chances.

2nd half was one way traffic and constant pressure from the eagles led to a further 4 well taken goals.

MOM – Cole Raine voted by the Swallwell Manager. MOM – Layton Minchella voted by the Aycliffe coaches. Scorers – Cole R x2, Layton M x2, Noah M 1.
