NAYFC U7 Wildcats 7 – 1 Felling Magpies
After 2 weeks without a game I was not sure how the girls would perform on Saturday morning but the score line shows the girls were ready for the challenge. The pass and move, as well as changing direction with the ball, that Steve and I have been working on in training, was clear to see as the girls played as a team moving into space and looking for the pass. I asked the girls before the game to try and win the ball back within 4 seconds of losing it. No complicated tactics, only that – and how they worked and pressed Felling was superb. Within two minutes Lucy and Ava worked the ball through their defence for Ava to split the ball past their keeper and within a minute scored a solo effort from distance to make it 2-0. Mia and Kaitlyn were solid at the back with Skye not letting anything past her. Good work from the back saw the ball come to Ava who slotted a lovely pass to Lucy, who then took a touch then hit a solid shot into the bottom corner. Ava scored her hat-trick soon after when her first shot was parried by the keeper, she followed her run and took the ball round the keeper to score into the empty net. Mia was next on the score sheet. Felling had a corner and within seconds the girls passed the ball out from defence and every girl had a touch, moving the ball out to Mia who took two defenders on, then coolly stroked her shot into the bottom corner for a superb team goal. Lucy and Ava were replaced with Nyah and Neve and the team continued to push, causing their defender to panic and shoot into her own goal. HT 6-0.
The second half was a little tighter with everyone performing at a great level. Felling were pressing too and scored a consolation goal. Wildcats were not finished yet as the team pressed again, a one on one run with the keeper led to a calm finish taking the FT score to 7-1. After that both teams had further opportunities with Skye saving well on several occasions. Brilliant display from the girls.
Easington Colliery 0 – 5 NAYFC U14 Girls
A trip to table topping and undefeated Easington Colliery for the under 14 girls today. The girls started on the front foot and had several good chances to take the lead, but their keeper was having a good game until a slight handling error was snapped up by Olivia for her first goal. A couple of half chances for Easington, before Alex wriggles free in the box and finds the corner. Another piece of individual skill and Olivia slots home for our third taking us to HT at 0-3.
The girls were told that the second half would be more physical as Easington would want to get back in the game and within a minute they had a great chance but Faith stood firm. Kate had been switched to full back and we were using her to build from the back with great effect. Aycliffe were now creating all the chances with Hattie getting close several times and Macy hitting the bar, but Hattie got her reward with a finish from a tight angle. It was left to Olivia to finish off the game making a hat trick when she picked up a rebound to slide the ball into the net taking the score at FT to 0-5. This was a huge team performance against a very good Easington team with every girl playing her part.
