Debut weekend for our newest team coming out of the Wildcats girls’ development section, as the new U8’s played Spraire Lasses. Our opposition were short of players due to holidays but still a very good day for this group of inexperienced girls. Plenty of work for the managers Chris and Claire Williams but good early signs.
Newton Aycliffe Youth U11’s Falcons 4 – 2 Tibs FC Blue
Today we played away at Tibs Blue who sat 3 points behind us in 2nd place before today’s game. The game was largely a scrappy affair with Tibs mainly playing the better football. We seemed a little uncomfortable in possession, missed hitting passes and rushing when we had time to get a foot on the ball. Despite this we still managed to get in front with a 2-0 lead by chasing everything down, pressing and causing errors in the opposition defence. Half time 2-0. In the 2nd half Tibs went for it and changed to a more attacking formation. This seemed to catch us out a bit and we conceded two early goals in the first half. However the players did not crumble and started taking the game to Tibs as well, getting another 2 goals to win the game 4-2, one of which was a great long range effort. Goal scorers were Louis Parnaby, Ethan Tate, Dylan Stewart and Reece Smith.
Newton Aycliffe Youth U14’s Hawks 5-1 Normanby Black.
A fast start by Aycliffe had us 1 up in the first minute as a lovely through ball by Callum found James who fired past the keeper. We were creating chances going forward but also needed Charlie to keep out Normanby at the other end. We doubled our lead midway through the first half as Callum again found James to fire home. James grabbed his hat-trick before HT as he was brought down in the area and stepped up and beat the keeper. 3-0 HT.
2nd half changes were made and some players were given different roles. We added a 4th as Will Mawston turned in a cross from the left for a debut goal. Normanby kept creating chances and had a penalty saved by Charlie but finally grabbed a goal with 10 mins left.
Drew added a 5th to keep up his recent goal scoring run. MOM for his first half hat-trick, goes to James. First game up front and took your chances well today. Another mention for Charlie in goal on another good performance. Also a shout out to Callum who grabbed a couple of assists today and created problems with his quality passing.
Bishop Girls 8 – 1 Newton Aycliffe Youth U11’s Girls
Saturday saw us all meet up at Sedgefield to use the 3G pitch. Bishop, the stronger side, dominated play with fast accurate passes, but with only 8 girls and a borrowed spectator (a boy no less) Aycliffe did their best to try and close them down. A quick goal from bishop that rebounded off the keeper’s gloves set the mood of the match, with us constantly playing catch up and chasing the opposition.
Every time we made it into their half and looked like scoring we were thwarted, all our efforts cleared or blocked. As always the girls tried hard but even a goal from Enya couldn’t seem to lift us. Onward and upward, there’s a lot more of the season left and we’ve got a lot more to give.
