Dear Sir
The Aycliffe Youth Council was set up with the aim to raise the profile of young people in a positive way, persuading them that they are valued and can make a difference within the town with the help of the residents. We have been involved with a number of different projects over the year including Town Pride Environment Week and Fun in The Park, and are also active among many of the committee groups around the town, attending GAMP and GARA meetings regularly.
A big part of the Youth Council is based around grants and we are available for organisations within the Great Aycliffe area to apply for grants that are of direct benefit to our town.
Any community youth group from Aycliffe who are interested in applying for a small grant can contact us via Great Aycliffe Town Council for more information at 01325 300700 or e-mailing info@great-aycliffe.gov.uk
Being a Youth Council member is a fantastic opportunity to gain skills in a number of different areas including leadership, organisational and social skills, whilst also aiming to improve relations between the residents of Great Aycliffe.
The meetings also act as a way of giving young people an understanding of what democracy means by involving them in the democratic processes demonstrated by the Town Council itself.
The sense of teamwork and respect is something frequently commented upon as we all do our best to lead by example, to continuously conduct ourselves properly so that the residents of Aycliffe feel comfortable to look to us for guidance.
Apart from the huge success that the Youth Council has been, it is a privilege to us all to be able to voice the young people’s opinions and concerns and we can only hope that we are truly doing you justice.
On behalf of the Youth Council, a massive thank you to the people of Great Aycliffe for your continued support and praise, it is fully appreciated.
Maria O’Hanlon
Secretary of Aycliffe Youth Council
