On Tuesday, 8th October a group of over 160 Year 5 students from Catholic primary schools across the area participated in an Autumn-themed Challenge Day hosted by St John’s School and Sixth Form Centre. The day was shared between numeracy and literacy activities. The numeracy section included an interactive team quiz and the literacy section concentrated on the use of poetic devices to create an Autumn scene.
Both activities culminated with the creation of a large display – a Geome-Tree and a Poe-Tree. Students created polygon leaves and researched their names using a bank of iPads and created an Autumn themed poem which was written on a leaf and decorated. Hopefully the students’ love of Maths and English has blossomed as a result! After such an enjoyable day the staff of St John’s School look forward to seeing and working with them all again in the very near future.
