Work in the Town Centre is progressing well and on schedule according to Manager Bryan Haldane. he accepts there may be some inconvenience and apologises for that, but not one shop has lost its access during the upheaval.
Shoppers are urged to follow the signs taking them to the shopping area. There may be some difficulty for people with pushchairs and they are requested to access the town centre from Greenwell Road.
The old paving is all but gone and the surface is being prepared for new paved areas and modern street furniture to be installed. This will take time and not be complete for at least another 4 months. Meanwhile the builders are working out the logistics of removing the old ramp and revitalising the entrance to the town centre at the Aldi end of Beveridge Way.
Readers will notice that common sense has prevailed and the wall next to Aldi denying access to the town centre from the multi-storey car park has been taken down. The areas is now being prepared with paving and lighting to allow public access.
Newtonians can start looking forward to completion of this phase of the redevelopment in November when the town centre will be transformed into a very attractive shopping experience. Bryan Haldane is very optimistic and already has a number of retailers intereasted in moving into Newton Aycliffe.
