Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn – before the Twilight saga even existed there was another vampire terrorising readers around the World: Dracula.
Woodham students in Year 9 were given an exciting chance to get their teeth stuck in to some active research. An educational visit to Whitby allowed them to explore the landing place of one of literature’s infamous villains and find out where the vampire tradition began.
Students were split into small groups and provided with a range of questions and a map of the area. Their task was to find the answers to the questions asked whilst avoiding being bitten. The treasure trail directed the students to the old town, the abbey and the band stand.
Many students also visited The Dracula Experience in which they were educated on the story of the famous novel; the villain’s victims; how to avoid being a target and the world of the vampire. As the vulnerable students progressed around the mysterious, black building they were shocked with bat sounds; they struggled to see clearly as the atmosphere of Bram Stoker’s novel was truly captured in the darkness. But, where was Dracula himself?
Waiting round the last corner of the experience, the students were petrified with the rapid appearance of literature’s most famous vampire! Edward Cullen take note. The Woodham teachers seemed to be quite clever and avoided all contact with The Dracula Experience; it seems they knew the dangers of this encounter.
Since the visit, a number of students have emerged around the Woodham Community Technology College site with pale skin and sharp fangs…. Could it be true? Perhaps, Stephanie Meyer should pay a visit to Woodham Community Technology College; it seems the next installment of the Twilight Saga is writing itself!
