Woodham Sports Academy athletes once again topped the table at GCSE, with 87% of students achieving five or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics.
The Sports Academy offers high-quality coaching oppor-tunities to elite athletes in a range of sports, including football, swimming, dance, gymnastics, cricket, table tennis, softball, basketball, handball, water polo, boxing and American football.
However membership of the Sports Academy also requires students to meet strict criteria in terms of academic progress, attendance and behaviour.
Liam Clough, Director of the Academy, said “Once again, those who take part in competitive sport have done better academically. This is because Woodham Sports Academy develops the whole person: character, leadership and self-esteem as well as health and well-being. Sport gives a structure to learning that helps in all subjects.
Our aim is for athletes to aspire and achieve, not just in their chosen sport, but in all aspects of their lives at Woodham Academy and beyond.” Over one third of Woodham Academy students are members of Woodham Sports Academy, with girls and boys equally represented.
