Woodham Academy students saw their hard work and dedication come to fruition last week, with yet another excellent set of GCSE results for 2022. In the year where a full examination series returned to all schools, it was always going to be a challenging time for the entire school community. However, it’s safe to say that the vast majority of students, on results day at Woodham, left happy and excited for what the future holds.
Sarah Dickinson, Deputy Headteacher, commented “I have not witnessed a more hard working and diligent set of students. Everybody is aware of the disruption that schools had as a result of COVID, and these students were the first to see the return of exams. Many were rightly worried, but the way in which they met the challenge head on, is simply inspiring. The year 11 programme at Woodham is designed to allow our students to achieve their potential, and it’s safe to say that it continues to be successful. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them.”
Andrew Bell, Headteacher, added “For many years now, we have prided ourselves on how well students do at the end of year 11. Yes, we want them to leave as well rounded human beings who can make a contribution to society, but it’s also important that they have the qualifications to go on and do what they want at college etc. Every subject area at Woodham now achieves strong results, and I’m certain that our families appreciate the quality of education their children receive. I’m delighted to say that I have a staff body who all work so hard to ensure that our students do well. I’m incredibly proud of everyone associated with the school and already looking forward to another great set of results in 2023.”
Subject performance was very good across the school, with the main subject areas of Maths, English and Science continuing to consistently provide our students with access to the college courses of their choice. Other GCSE subjects again proved successful, including History, where an outstanding 11 grade 9’s were achieved. French recorded over 50 pass grades and our ever impressive art department witnessed excellent grades across their large cohort. Furthermore, the increasingly large range of vocational courses, including Food, Sport, Graphics, Engineering, Childcare, Health and Social Care, Music and iMedia, all recorded impressive outcomes.
Finally, a special mention must go to Heston Reid. He recorded 11 grade 9’s at GCSE level. This was only achieved by 188 students nationally. Heston is moving on to the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle, where we are all sure he will be an amazing success. Well done Heston!
