The 8th of July was another resounding success for the staff and students at Woodham Academy’s annual art exhibition. Work was presented by year 11 GCSE and BTEC students who have studied art for 5 years now at the school. The highlight of this year’s show was the inclusion of a selection of light sculptures which the students produced as a response to the “Lumiere” exhibition which the students and staff visited around the streets of Durham earlier in the year.
The remainder of the exhibits were displayed in the departments recently refurbished exhibition space. Our young artists get a particular thrill from having their best pieces presented to the public in such a nice setting. It was wonderful for the winner of our most improved artist award, Jordan Duff, to be able to share his success with friends and family. The artwork was complemented with a buffet and musical accompaniment from Samuel Gittins one of the Music departments rising stars.
Friends from the community and colleagues involved in art education visited the exhibition and were hugely impressed by Woodham students’ achievements.
