Newton News was invited to cover Woodham Academy’s First Dance Showcase last week and can report a truly amazing experience. The performance of all students was fantastic and both teachers and parents can be very proud.
The Academy have something very special to celebrate in the Dance Department and it appears to be the appointment of Miss Minervini whose tuition, choice of music and choreography obviously inspires her students.
Hard work put in at rehearsals, dedication and attention to detail provided superb performances from all year groups. The solo items by Lisa Robinson, Ruby Palmer, Lauren Towell and Charlotte Lough were outstanding and showcased four very talented young girls.  Lisa’s piece “Talking to the Moon” was complemented beautifully by vocalist Meghan Cumming.
A number of the dance pieces were choreographed by students, inspired by themes incuding bullying, hostage taking and Nelson Mandella’s legacy. The mesasage from each dance performance came across vividly, teasing the emotions of the audience who responded with loud applause.
The most impressive part of the students’ performance was the confident and precise manner in which this production was staged. Each piece was delivered faultlessly and they were all very comfortable performing in front of a large audience with no apparent nervousness.
This could be an annual event and the only suggestion to make would be to enhance this very high standard with more and better stage lighting, to help the different moods portrayed.
