National Science week was the 8th – 15th March 2021, and this year’s concept was innovating the future. In the last few decades, science and technology have massively changed the way in which we live our lives, and will no doubt shape our future. Therefore, it seemed appropriate to ensure that even in these uncertain times, promotion of scientific developments and careers was paramount in our local education establishments.
Woodham Academy worked with a number of primary schools including Vane Road, Woodham Burn and Stephenson Way, during the week, to encourage local children to think about how they see their future. Ideas ranged from flying cars, water purification machines, and innovative ways to clean up the world’s oceans.
In a competition that would rival the apprentice. Winners were gifted Easter eggs, but congratulations were extended to all the students, who ranged from 5-11 who took part in the event. All work produced was of a high quality and deserved commendation.
Woodham Academy is investing heavily in the development and promotion of science within schools across Newton Aycliffe and its surrounding areas. Mrs Nichola Jenkins, Head of cross phase Science at Woodham Academy is working to bring practical science from the secondary schools to the primary schools, developing curriculums and providing external speakers to engage and enthuse students in the science and technology areas.
