Recently a group of Year 10 students from Woodham Academy had the opportunity to take part in a ‘Wise Drive’ event at The Work Place. This was a driving safety awareness course for young people delivered by Durham Constabulary.
The workshops covered a variety of issues which impacted on driving accidents, including alcohol and drug use, speed, seatbelt use and distractions for the driver of a car. Students also learned about the aftermath of driving accidents and heard some real life stories, which were very shocking.
The students also had a chance to test their reaction time on an emergency stop simulator, which was very exciting. Some of the students bravely volunteered to experience the force of a 5 mile an hour crash!
It was a very informative and emotionally stimulating day where all the students, and staff, learned some important driving safety lessons. Our thanks to everybody that took part,  especially Durham Constabulary for organising such an excellent event.
