Greenfield College Basketball Academy Team
Durham Wildcats have set up four Basketball academies in County Durham. In September 2012 the Wildcats launched their academy at Greenfield School and have been delighted with the impact it received. With over 40 students attending every week, the standard of basketball has increased dramatically. The Wildcats provide top quality coaching FREE of charge to all interested students. They would like to thank the coaches and the club for their hard work and support.
Recently Greenfield Year 8 boys travelled to Sedgefield for a County Durham Tournament. This event was open to all schools in the County and Greenfield finished in equal 1st place with Durham Johnston – a fantastic achievement.
More recently two teams of girls travelled from Greenfield and were placed 4th in the County in a very close tournament, with only one goal preventing them from finishing in 2nd place. Well done girls.
Last weekend the four Academies were invited to take part in a Year 7 inter academy event at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. This saw some excellent Basketball played – again Greenfield fielded two teams and Both performed extremely well. Durham Johnston finished top, with Greenfield 1st team finishing a close 2nd and Woodham finishing 3rd. Well done to all involved.
Thank you again to the Wildcats for giving up their time to organise this event and for the invite to watch a first class game against Surrey Heat. Our students really enjoyed it.
Greenfield’s basketball academy runs every Friday 3.30 to 5.30, and is open to Year 5, 6 & KS3 girls and boys – All welcome.
Thank you to Kayleigh Stapleton and Sam Dawson, two of our sport leaders who gave up time to support our year 7 teams on Sunday, along with a large number of parents, it was very much appreciated.
