A number of residents rang Newton News last Monday morning alarmed at witnessing all the trees in the town centre being sawn down.
We contacted the Manager Bryan Haldane who told us: “The trees are not thriving due to them having come to us diseased from the nursery.
The nursery has agreed to replace them and as September is the optimum time for planting we have initiated the replanting this week with new trees which should take approximately 5-8 working days”.
One shopkeeper was not happy they had received no notice of the problem with the trees or the action to be taken. “It would have been courteous to let us know” he complained. Later this shop keepers did receive a letter.
Newton News asked Bryan to give an update on the town centre demoliton and general progress and he is waiting for the London Landlords to respond.
