This photograph was taken in 1975 of a 5 a-side team called The Swifts: Steven Kilburn, Kevin Maw, Paul Gibson, David Thompson, Andrew Gargarth, Steven Rawlinson, Trevor Hodson.
Douglas Dunn formed and ran the team who played at St. Oswalds roller skating rink which at the time doubled as a 5 a-side football pitch and for many years a healthy league operated there. Do any of the players still live in the area or where they are now?
The Swifts were not the most successful team, getting thrashed most of the time but the coach was always impressed with their sheer enthusiasm which never wavered despite being bottom of the league for the duration of the season!
Their sportsmanship s Add Mediaaw them rewarded in 1975 with the Sportmanship Cup for their conduct despite catastrophic losses. They were also presented with the Emu cup from Ernie Mullen who was a major force in running the league.
