This week was the premiere of “What If..?” a live performance at Greenfield Community College. The performance, by Unfolding Theatre, was devised and designed by students from Greenfield and scientists at Durham University and was a tremendous success.
The interactive performance called on the audience to engage with actors to stimulate their curiosity and wonder. The performance honestly realised the ideas that have been explored by students and scientists over the past 5 months and everyone involved in the project was very pleased with the outcome!
We have been commended by many who have seen it this week and the tour, that followed the premier to schools across the North East, was a triumph.
In developing the performance the students from Greenfield Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Club, started by developing their ideas of what science and creativity means to them, working with professional theatre director and performer Annie Rigby (founder of Unfolding Theatre) and mentor scientists from Durham University including Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology Research Departments
The group visited the University, performing hands-on experiments and investigations, and explored their own responses and sense of wonder and curiosity.
During follow-up after-school sessions they combined their ideas together to develop a live performance, which was performed by Unfolding Theatre.
We would like to say well done to all those involved, thank you to the great staff and actors involved, and to the schools on the tour for welcoming us!
