Former Woodham Academy Student and West End performer, Nathan Elwick, was invited into school last week to speak to students who have a passion for singing, dancing and acting.
Nathan Left Woodham Academy in 2010 and went on to study for a BTEC in Performing Arts at Newcastle College. After gaining his qualifications, he then moved to the capital to pursue his dream of performing on the big stage.
After landing a place at renowned Arts Educational School (ArtsEd) in London, Nathan’s career path began. One of his first musicals was Beauty and the Beast. Starring at Lumiere he said. ‘This was a fantastic role to play and so much fun especially getting to work with flame throwers.’
Now a Musical Theatre Graduate, the Newtonian is currently touring the UK with the cast of The Glenn Miller Story. ‘This has been my first real role and having the opportunity to work with such amazing talent has been fantastic and a great learning experience’.
The students asked Nathan a variety of questions and they were given an insight in to the routes he took his get to where he is today. He said: ‘The music teachers at Woodham inspired me, they taught about films and plays to watch and brought out the performer in me.’
Nathan finished his talk with students by adding, ‘My advice to students wanting to go in to any performing role would be to always have passion, be a sponge and soak everything up, do your research and just keep learning.’
Before leaving, Nathan and Music teacher Mrs Taylor led an impromptu performance on the piano which the students thoroughly enjoyed.
