Sedgefield Water Polo Club sent a young team of just nine players to Dunfermline, Scotland, on Sunday 1st September, to participate in the first BMC Cup U14’s Autumn Festival in memory of the late Brian Campbell, an influential figure in the world of Scottish water polo.
The day began with a match against Menziehill which resulted in an amazing 10-1 win; this success continued into the next game against Warrender where there was another win; this time 9-2. This then allowed the team to enter the play offs where, unfortunately, their winning streak ended. In this round, they had a 7-6 loss against Stirling and a 5-2 loss against Stingrays. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. The team, coached by Paul, played outstandingly well together and came away in a very well deserved fourth place; a special mention to Dylan who proceeded to win the ‘goalkeeper of the tournament’ award for some resilient goal keeping displays and fantastic saves.
Thanks to the parents who made the long drive up to Dunfermline to support the team.
We’d also like to advise that we can now offer player sponsorships for just £30 per player for this season in return for regular advertising and promotion on our social media pages. If this is something that your business may be interested in, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. All monies raised will be used to allow our fantastic members the opportunity to develop their skills and provide them with the equipment they need in order to succeed in the sport.
In addition to Junior and Senior sessions, Sedgefield Water Polo Club now offers a beginner session at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on a Saturday afternoon for those wishing to try this fun and exciting sport. All sessions need to be booked in advance on our Club App, so please check our website for further information and joining instructions, email sedgefieldwp@hotmail.com or contact 07579 030598.
