Two clubs which aim to reduce isolation and loneliness have secured over £6,000 in funding so they can continue for another year.
The Bishop Auckland Community Partnership has secured £6,345 of funding for the Four Clocks Club and Memory Club through the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership’s (AAP) older persons social isolation fund.
The older persons social isolation fund is allocated to each of the 14 AAPs to support community led initiatives that improve the quality of life of people over the age of 50 who may be socially isolated. The initiatives encourage participation in activities and projects that provide opportunities for residents to engage with their local communities.
At the Four Clocks Club members choose from a range of activities from games and bingo to crafts and singing. In addition to this the club also arranges outings for attendees to places such as the seaside, the garden centre and an annual pantomime trip. They meet every Friday afternoon at 1.30pm
The Memory Club was developed in response to a growing demand to cater for those with dementia and their carers. Members also partake in a range of activities and outings and they meet every other Tuesday afternoon at 1pm.
Andrew Walker, Bishop Auckland and Shildon AAP coordinator, said: “We are delighted to be able to support local groups delivering vital support to older people in communities through this fund. We have seen first-hand the amazing work the group delivers and to be able to ensure the group continues has been fantastic”.
Both clubs meet at the Four Clocks Centre in Bishop Auckland. For more information please contact the Four Clocks Centre on 01388 609852 or email receptionfourclocks@btconnect.com.
