Members of the Aycliffe Bus Preservation Society were delighted to have been offered significant funding by GAMP and Honest John earlier in the year in order to have their ex Darlington Double Decker AHN 451B re -panelled and repainted by local coach repairers Gardiners of Spennymoor. It is some 20 years since it was last repainted and the current work will give it another 20 years of quality display time. The previous advert on the bus for Darlington Leisure Services is to be renewed in order to maintain it local roots.
Amused by last week’s letter in the Newton News from Bill Curtis about buses on the Sapphire 7 service. John Sullivan of Gardiners, assured the Society that the vintage rattles, bangs and groans are definitely from the aged Society drivers and not from the old bus itself. We think that Gardiners are “pulling our leg”!
