Dear Editor
Why can’t they be offered one of the (many) empty shops in the centre, rent free – imagine the extra footfall in the centre, not just to Honest John but to the other shops too?
I don’t know what bills they have to cover while in the Cubby, but if their outgoings could remain the same that would be more than ideal?
It has been mentioned that the Library is to be re-sited near the Leisure Centre – why can’t the current Library be given to Honest John and the Cubby when the Library becomes empty?  It would be a good use of the empty building with the bonus of car parking on site!
If Honest John and the Cubby were to close down altogether, so many people would be affected, and disappointed at this.  Honest John has done so much, giving his own time free, and donated so much too so it is time that he was given something in return.
So, come on Freshwater – put your hand in your pocket and give something back to our community!

Common sense would dictate using the old Library for the Cubby, Honest John and other community uses, but the building belongs to another department and we understand the County Council pay a ground rent of around £40,000 per annum to Freshwaters, the town centre landlords.
Add this to the £350,000 the building cost and we begin to see why the Council needs to make savings. We said at the time it would have been cheaper to convert a large town centre shop like Woolworths, taken on a short term lease.
