Football Coach Anthony Greenwell brought 12 of his team of 17 players to local strength and conditioning gym CrossFit All Out for a gruelling 90 minute session with Head Coach Terry Anderson and assistant Coach Vicki Finn Smith.
The session began with a discussion about why strength, fitness and the other components of CrossFit are essential for anyone to excel in the sport of football, as well as the general health and wellbeing benefits.
The physical part of the session then consisted of a warm up, technique instruction and practice, followed by a 20 minute workout that included skipping, wall-sits, kettlebell swings, box jump-overs, push ups and plank holds.
Terry explained “every CrossFit session is different as we design the sessions to cater for individual groups we work with. We are always working different body parts and energy systems, which is partly why it’s beneficial to people involved in any type of sport.
We wanted to deliver a workout to the team that included a variety of exercises for the group and get them learning and working hard in pairs. The team was a pleasure to coach and we wish them all the best with future training and matches.”
Team Coach Anthony added “it’s great for them to try different sports and activities together as a team off the pitch and helps build camaraderie. The feedback from the session has been great, the lads really enjoyed it. Terry and his team were very accommodating, and we hope to get some regular sessions at CrossFit All Out.”
