A tale of intrigue, plotting and violence will be revealed next week as a County Durham historian tells the story of Turnpike Trustee Tantrums.
David Butler’s talk will also shed light on why pages are mysteriously missing from documents dating back to 1780s Darlington.
David, who is also an archivist at Durham County Record Office, will present the talk at County Hall, Durham, between 12.30pm and 1.15pm on Thursday, 18 January.
Dawn Layland, education and outreach archivist, said: “Our Third Thursday talks have proven very popular and are a great way of exploring the fascinating history of our local area, through the archive collections we keep.”
The session is part of a series of talks taking place at Durham County Record Office under the name of Third Thursday Talks. Talks cover topics ranging from the Durham Light Infantry and the First World War to changing fashions through the ages.
