Dozens of Santas, a snowman and angels have collected more than 1,000 presents to deliver to families in need of help.
The Turbinia & Aycliffe Bike Club (ABC) organise the toy run every Christmas to collect donations for Bishop Auckland women’s refuge and a Newton Aycliffe children’s charity. Setting off from the Turbinia pub, in Newton Aycliffe, on Sunday, they stopped off at pubs around County Durham to pick up presents for the charity. Around 50 people took part in the event, which also featured a party fire engine to collect the presents.
Organiser and pub landlord Gary Soakell said: “It was absolutely excellent. We were lucky with the weather and all the pubs on our route were really generous. We filled the fire engine from top to bottom and another car as well. I would like to thank everyone that got involved, too many to name individually, you will make a lot of children happy on Xmas day”
A raffle at The Turbinia, and cash collection on the day was also made, with money going towards 3 fridges for the refuge.
