Yackley Sporting Club is a clay pigeon shooting club which was set up by people of Newton Aycliffe, for the people of the town over 30 years ago. It has continued to be run by people from all over Newton Aycliffe, (and yes we are the people who make all the noise every other Sunday morning, sorry about that)
Our club is open to give people an opportunity to experience the thrill of handling and shooting a gun in a controlled and safe environment, where full training on gun safety is given, by our CPSA trained Safety officers.
Our club is not elitist in any way and is open to everyone; for instance we have a number of junior members of our club including female shooters. The most common question we get asked is “does it hurt”? The answer is not if it is done properly and as such, we have a variety of guns available to shoot including smaller guns for use by children and people who are slightly built. The guns can be used by children as young at 10 years old.
The club is fully sanctioned by Durham Constabulary, fire arms department to enable non-shooters under supervision by our safety officers, to be shown how to use guns in a safe environment.
We are running a Charity Fund raising event in aid of Special Care Baby Unit at Darlington Memorial Hospital, a charity that has special significance to three of our club members, who have had premature babies cared for by the staff at the Special Care Baby Unit. The event starts at 11am at Aycliffe Quarry which can be accessed from Walkers Lane, Middridge, with ample onsite parking, and will be sign posted, from Aycliffe.
Included in the ticket cost is: 25 clay Targets including shot gun cartridges and use of club guns, along with full training on safe use of the gun, by our fully trained and experienced CPSA safety officers.
After the shoot a light lunch will be provided at the Cobblers Hall, in Newton Aycliffe where we have 4 live musical acts starting at 2pm running through to closing time.
Also during the day we will have a Bucking Bronco competition with a £50 cash prize to the person who can stay on the longest.
We are also running a charity raffle with quality prizes donated by many local businesses, including Ramsey’s, Ebac, Spray Vehicle Body Repairs, Revolution Power, and the Veg Oil Warehouse.
The Raffle Prizes include a Spa Day (ladies only) at the Water Fall Spa in Leeds, a selection Waterfall spa lotions and potions, various bottles of quality booze including Moet Chardon Champagne, along with many other prizes including free food: see the full list on Yackley Sporting Clubs Facebook page, as prizes are being donated and added daily.
If shooting is not for you but you would like to support a well loved local charity, then the after shoot party at Cobblers Hall is FREE entry to absolutely EVERYONE.
You can enjoy a full day’s entertainment for FREE, and who knows you might even win the bucking bronco competition.
