The annual Swimathon organised by Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club partnered with other service clubs in the area was held at Spennymoor Leisure Centre last Sunday. there was a great turnout of teams all swimming for their own chosen charity, shared with the sponsored charity of the day.
This event has been held anually for over 30 years and has raised around £400,000. The teams of swimmers compete for trophies for the number of lanes swum and the most sponsorhip money raised.
Local organiser Rotarian Gordon Howe thanks all those from the Newton Aycliffe area who supported the event including businesses who bought advertising space on the poster.
There were two teams from Newton Aycliffe Boys Brigade who swam 165 and 185 lengths and raised just over £200.
