Raise Funds, Recruit , Meet & Promote
A new Community Shop managed by Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) is available for groups and organisations to use free of charge.
A new sign has just gone up which has very kindly been donated by Newton Press. The shop has been offered by Bryan Haldane, Town Centre Management until such time it is demolished as part of the redevelopment.
The shop is next to the Post Office in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre and is ideal for information days, meetings, table top sales, exhibitions, knit and natter groups, recruiting new members, or simply raising awareness of your service/activity.
Community groups can book the shop free of charge for a week or two, or on a weekly basis to demonstrate their activities and raise their profile.
Groups using it have represented a diverse range of interests such as cycling, health talks, environmental issues, art for positive mental health, local history, credit advice and a parents group.
It also provides a useful venue for displays and consultations relating to plans for Newton Aycliffe. Great Aycliffe and Middridge Area Action Partnership (GAMP) are holding a ‘Meet the GAMP team’ event in June, keep an eye on local press for further details nearer the time.
Kirsty Deacon-Brown, Marketing and Arts Co-ordinator for the PCP says “We want people to visit the ‘Community Shop’ to discover the huge variety of local activities and services that people can access on their own doorstep. We want people to have fun, try something new and celebrate what Aycliffe has to offer.”
The shop idea came from a local partnership called ‘Active Aycliffe’ which involves organisations such as Durham County Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Team, PCP, Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP), Woodham Academy, One Point, Great Aycliffe Town Council, the Rotary Club and local sports clubs who have got together to run events and raise the profile of what’s going on in Aycliffe.
‘Active Aycliffes’ aim is to help get children, young people and families fitter and healthier and participate in activities to improve their lifestyles. The shop will showcase the activities of local clubs and associations and provide a market place of information.
If you represent a local organisation/group and would like to run an activity or book a time slot at the shop please contact Angie Cooke, Project Admin Officer at PCP on 01325 321234 email enquiries@pcp.uk.net.
