Report on Council Meeting, Wednesday 13th March, 2013
At the start of the meeting, Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg outlined his vision for the role, the developments at Aykley Heads, and his priorities for 2013-17, which are to tackle: Domestic abuse, Hate crime, Anti-social behaviour,
Harm caused to individuals and communities by alcohol and drugs, careless or dangerous driving, and illegal or inconsiderate parking and generally to improve engagement with local communities, making police services visible and accessible.
In a lively question and answer session, Councillors expressed their disappointment with the loss of the police garage from Aycliffe (a decision made before Mr Hogg became Commissioner), but applauded his commitment to build a new police station on the present site in the town centre.
Councillors welcomed a letter from Class 5 at Aycliffe Primary School calling for continued improvements to the environment, and asked the Council’s Environment Officer to continue his work with the school.
Livin has approached the Town Council in regard to the acquisition from the Council land at Travellers Green, which will allow the construction of a number of new dwellings.
This is an exciting opportunity, not only for the Council to address the housing crisis, but to have a say in the kind of dwellings that are going to be built – the planned scheme will provide much-needed bungalows. Councillors unanimously approved the idea.
