A fundraising effort by local Air Cadets has been given a flying start thanks to funding from Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP).

The funding, secured through GAMP via the Neighbourhood Budget allocations of County Councillor Sarah Iveson and former County Councillor Jed Hillary, has allowed 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron Air Cadets to install an ICT Suite at their headquarters in the Barnard Armoury.

The new equipment will be widely used and will allow the cadets to study for internal exams and wider BTEC qualifications. The squadron parades on Mondays and Thursdays between 18:45 and 21:30 hours and new members are always welcome.

Flt. Lt. Karin Scott, said: ‘The staff and cadets of 1407 are very grateful to County Councillor Iveson and former County Councillor Hillary for their support for this project. Some of our activities rely on the cadets having access to ICT facilities and the new suite will prove to be a very valuable asset. We would also like to thank GAMP for their assistance in securing the funding.’
