Newton Aycliffe FC head into this weekend’s big local derby with near neighbours Shildon on the back of another Northern League reverse.
And conversely the Railwaymen come into the game fresh from beating Stalybridge, a full-time outfit, to progress into the 3rd Qualifying round of the FA Cup.
Aycliffe are a team in need of something from the game. Following on from the morale boosting win at Billingham Synthonia the previous week, they have then slipped to a midweek defeat at Newcastle Benfield, before last Satursday’s defeat at the hands of Whitley Bay.
Boss Allan Oliver had looked to bring in some fresh blood for the Whitley Bay game, with Archer joining on loan from Spennymoor to bolster the midfield, while forward Dickinson was brought in to add some firepower to the Aycliffe attack.
But it was left to seasoned Northern League player Paul Chow to score the only goal of the game for Bay. Aycliffe were once again forced to play out the game with 10 men as full back Scott Oldfield saw red for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
It has to be hoped that Aycliffe can pick up something from the game to give them a boost, ahead of Wednesday nights game at home to Penrith, another team who find themselves towards the foot of the table.
Aycliffe will be well aware after the struggles of the previous two years that they need to pick up points quickly.
The game with Shildon kicks off at the AuxAudio.co.uk Stadium at 3pm. The Club wish to thank Tekmar, who are the match sponsors for the game.  Admission costs just £6 for adults, £4 concessions. Under 12s are free and the affiliate scheme for junior players associated with NAYFC and NAJFC is in operation.
