Following the death of Rosemary Boynton of Heighington a collection was made to commemorate the hard work and time she gave to the local community during her 89 years in the village. She lived in the village for most of her life where she was a Postwomen for many years before owning The Fish and Chip shop for 20 years up to her retirement.
She was a founder member of the Village Hall, where she served on the committee and organised several village fetes, as well as being an active member of the WI and later the over sixties. After retirement she continued as a committee member and later became an Honorary member.
She served as a Parish Councillor and District Councillor always leading campaigns for the good of the community. Deputy Mayor of Darlington Gerald Lee spoke very highly of her at her funeral in January and said she always gave her time to the Village.
Taking up this theme the family approached the Heighington Village Hall committee who agreed to accept two Station Clocks as a lasting reminder of ‘The Time she gave to the Village Community’
Three generations of Rosemary’s family led by her daughter Jill presented the clocks to the committee. The clocks are now installed in both halls within the Village Hall for all to see. The family also gave Bethany Nursing Home a Bird bath and feeder for the residents’ garden as a thank you for the care the staff gave Rosemary over the 3years she lived there. The family would like to say thank you for the generosity and support they have received from the villagers at this sad time.
