Over the last few weeks the volunteers as part of the “Hands On” project at Greenfield Arts have been working hard putting their grand plans for a new outdoor community space into action!

They braved the cold weather during February half term and marked out and dug trenches where a new bamboo structure will be installed over the next few weeks.

The group of local men have been volunteering their time over the past 6 months to design and build a new community outdoor area at Greenfield Arts. The project has been funded by the NHS and East Durham Trust as part of their larger “Cree” project.

We would like to thank the men for their hard work so far, and are looking forward to seeing the space when it’s complete!

If you are interested in volunteering some time to help, we are looking for more men to join us for the last part of this project and help with the construction of the space. If you are interested please contact Greenfield Arts on 01325 379048, or email info@greenfield-arts.co.uk.

Last week Durham County Councillors Dorothy Bowman and Paul Gittins, along with volunteers from Greenfield Arts’ “Hands On” project buried a time capsule in the grounds of Greenfield Community College.

The time capsule was provided as part of a GAMP AAP funded project during the Olympics last year. The project was managed by Michelle Postma, Extended Schools Co-ordinator, and funded by Councillors Paul Gittins, Joan Gray, Mike Dixon, Sarah Iveson, John Moran, the late Enid Paylor and Dorothy Bowman who contributed £14,000 worth of neighbourhood funding for the project as a whole.

Time capsules were given to each school in Aycliffe to allow all pupils the opportunity to leave a snippet of life in 2012 for future generations to discover.

This time capsule was filled by Greenfield students with objects and artefacts to represent life at Greenfield and it’s achievements.  Each of Greenfield’s house groups contributed something to the capsule, on different themes. In 50 years the time capsule will be unearthed and students in 2063 will be able to find out about life at Greenfield in 2013!
