Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity has been targeted by thieves for the second time in two weeks following a break in at the charity’s Sadberge Rehoming Centre.
The centre was broken into in the early hours of Sunday as thieves smashed the double glazed glassed panels in reception and made off with a collection box containing over £800.
This comes just a week after the Shoreham Charity Shop was also targeted by thieves who ransacked the shop till.
Local police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information and members of the public are urged to contact the police on 0345 60 60 365.
Sue Embleton, Dogs Trust Darlington Rehoming Centre Manager comments: “Dogs Trust staff and volunteers have been left extremely shocked and saddened by the break-in. It is a particularly callous act as this money was generously donated by the public to be used to help us care for hundreds of dogs in need at our rehoming centre in Sadberge. We truly hope this is not the start of a trend.”
Dogs Trust Darlington cares for around 120 abandoned and unwanted dogs at any one time. If you are interested in rehoming a rescue dog call the Rehoming Centre directly on 01325 333 114 or visit at Hill House Farm, Sadberge, Co Durham, DL2 1SL.
