Members of the churches in the Parish of Great Aycliffe have recently taken up amateur dramatics . . . It’s all part of a national scheme called “Open The Book”. Opening up stories in the Bible to primary school children in a fun, interactive and age appropriate way.
All the scripts are approved by Ofsted and are recognised as a good way of achieving the requirement to ‘deliver collective worship of a broadly Christian nature’.
Our teams are really enjoying going into different schools and acting out these stories – up to now firm favourites have been Noah’s Ark, the story of Moses, The Great Escape and the one in the picture – The Walls fall down, capturing the story of Joshua gaining entry into the town of Jericho by marching round the walls seven times (the children loved this bit!) and blowing trumpets and shouting (great fun with an army of reception – Yr 6 children). No wonder ‘Joshua’ looks tired in our picture!!
The children love watching and participating in these stories and children, staff and team members are learning more and more about the love God has for each one of us through them.
We currently share stories in four schools in Newton Aycliffe, so if you would like a team to come into your school to see for yourself what this is all about please telephone Rev. Debbie on 310767.
