Some lessons are free, some come at a price and some come with age.

We make a mistake, nobody gets hurt or is none the wiser and we feel we got away with it. But do we come out of the experience any the wiser, or have we simply written it off as an unfortunate accident that could happen to anyone, and give it no more thought? In many ways a lesson is only a lesson when we realise the value of the experience before us and we have the presence of mind to accept it and learn from it. Having learnt the lesson we must then ensure this is reflected in the way we live our life from that point on. A ‘mistake’ repeated time and time again is no longer a mistake, it’s a course of action that we have chosen to make regardless of the consequences to ourselves and those around us.

Even the most negative action serves a purpose and the experience or more importantly the consequences of our actions is transformed into a lesson when we begin to think about what we are doing, why we are doing it and what, if anything, are we getting out of the experience. Ignorance and fear hide a multitude of sins, misconceptions and misguided beliefs about what is possible, appropriate and acceptable, in short the conditioning that we have accepted over time without question. Lessons of any kind challenge what we hold to be true and ask us to open our mind to accept and apply a new and raised level of knowledge and understanding. Lessons learnt provide us with experience, options and new found ability, lessons that go unnoticed or unrecognised will simply be repeated until we do.
