All of the children of Walworth School reflected on the importance of understanding emotional wellbeing and mental health on World Mental Health day. The children engaged in a range of artistic tasks to reflect their awareness of what Mental Health means to them. The whole School made a visual video presentation using children`s art work and pupil voice to convey their own personal feelings about the mental health issues they face.
One class presented a dramatic sketch using movement, gestures and dance to a piece of thought provoking music. This performance again highlighted the importance of how mental health issues can become a barrier to our lives. The thoughts and feelings expressed by the children tugged at the heart strings of all present reducing many to tears through the powerful images portrayed.
Head Teacher Mr Peter Wallbanks said, “The emotion conveyed through the performances was amazing. The children deserved great credit. We strive to support children`s emotional wellbeing in all we do at Walworth and have done for some time.
The children are now much more able to describe how they are feeling and share this with staff. Having reached this point, it then becomes possible to support their needs”.
