It has been quite a week and I have to say the masses of support I have had for my hedgehogs has been quite overwhelming. Firstly, a special thanks to Linda and Sue of Jorgias Attic for allowing me to pitch up at the front of the shop to raise awareness and some much needed funds for our prickly babies.
Donella, Wally and the staff at Grannies Choice for their donation of puppy pads, these little hogs are very mucky, it makes it so much easier for me to keep them clean and healthy whilst they are here, it takes me 45mins to freshen up 15 hedgehogs at 6.30 every morning, 7 days a week.
Jackie and John for their donation of goods for the fundraising effort, Hilary and Evie, who live in our street, visited recently with some lovely items for our raffle as I admitted a little boy hedgehog off Pat, Bluebell Close. Evie was really kind and helpful towards this little hog, she is a credit to her family, little hog is doing well.
To everyone who have bought raffle tickets, family, friends, supporters and neighbours each and every one of you, my heartfelt thanks.
Greg and Vickie found a female in their garden who had hurt herself on their fence trying to get some food, sent for me straight away, brought her home to give her food, rest and make her better, she is also doing well. Thank you both.
The more funds I have, the more medicines I can have at my disposal, there is nothing worse than having a very poorly hedgehog or hoglet pitch up here on a weekend when the vets are closed, there is quite a lot rescues can do, euthanasia is not an option, I never give up I always try to help them wherever possible.
I am fast finding out that having a lot of hedgehogs in Rescue, and also fundraising, is not easy. I am fortunate that at the moment I don’t have any very poorly hedgehogs here, that need critical or full nursing care, babies take a lot of time too, especially poorly ones. Pictured is Poppy, she has struggled to get some food in the wild because the ground has been very hard, she is very underweight but gaining weight nicely now, she is my oldest in Rescue bless her, she is lovely. Thanks to Lesley and Steve for bringing her so quickly.
Tip of the Week: Flies are our hedgehogs worst enemy, flystrike is awful because the eggs hatch into maggots and eat flesh, whether dead or alive, if a hog, big or small, has flystrike they need help either from a vet or rescuer without delay.
