It’s busy here as usual, lots of visits from finders and some wonderful support from June, Valerie, Joyce, Trish, Barry’s finder, Debbie came to see Summer and she was happy to give her a little cuddle. I like the finders to try and see how I keep these poorly babies, so that they feel happier about leaving them here, their support is overwhelming to say the least.
Tuesday night a new admission arrived, a beautiful hedgehog and bless her she was covered in ticks and some of the ticks were engorged on her blood. I wished I had a camera to photograph the ladies when they brought her here, it was priceless, they searched every rescue in the area but our thanks has to go to Lorraine Elliott, they found me using another Facebook page. Please meet Doreen pictured above.
All rescuers are struggling to cope with the constant influx of poorly babies, we have to work together to make sure that they all get the help they need and deserve. Sandra, of Darlington Rescue, is still unwell so she is limited to what she can take, let’s wish her a speedy recovery.
We know we class our hedgehogs as wild, I don’t see them like that at all, once we earn their trust and their health improves they are very gentle and a pleasure to have and they share our home with us. I don’t envy them being in the wild with so many health difficulties and predators.
Tip of the Week: If you see a small hedgehog out alone please help him or her, during the day is a definite sign they are in trouble, they don’t have fleas that move to you or your pets, clothes or carpets.
Get them out of harms way, a high sided box, wrap a hot water bottle in a towel and get help, either BHPS on 01584 890801, Facebook Prickly Haven Hedgehog Hotel or a Vet they will not charge anyone for taking in a hedgehog.
