This week has been very busy and special in many ways, there are a lot of people out there who have gone to special trouble to help us help our beautiful prickly pals, firstly our friends and neighbours Alison and John, Sonya of Merz Road for donating food, also Mr and Mrs Clayton for their donation of food which I may say Cerys, who Pat rescued, is enjoying.
I also want to express a big thank you to Tara, she has not only helped me with baby hogs but came fundraising with me to Scorton indoor market last Sunday morning which meant leaving town at 5.30am, quite a big ask on a Sunday, turned out OK, giving our funds a much needed boost.
We have to fundraise because we have a lot of babies that will be here till April, maybe about 16 for overwintering and with a lockdown, whilst we are still helping the hoggies fundraising stops, we are caring, feeding and keeping them warm all the time.
I have to say all hedgehogs in our care are doing very nicely, still very small but gaining weight every day.
Can I ask everybody to watch out for our wildlife, our hedgehogs face many difficult challenges in the wild but this time of year is particularly harsh, it’s also worrying the amount of small hogs we have here that would surely die out in this extreme weather, we try to take them in wherever possible but we aren’t without our limitations. All us rescues are not in a position to turn a very small hog away even if it means purchasing more cages.
Weekly Tip: Please visit website Hedgehog Street or The People’s Trust for Endangered Species, for ideas on how to help these lovely mammals, they not only need it but deserve our support and help.
