This last few days have been the hardest I have experienced since I decided to become a hedgehog rescuer/rehabber. I want to share with you how heartbreaking this cause can be and, however bad things get, I will never give up on these poor creatures. Firstly, poor Grace passed away last Thursday from the injuries she sustained on Saturday 11th May. She had come out into the open asking for help because she was unwell with a parasite burden, she asked the wrong people bless her, instead of being helped she was kicked around so badly she was badly bruised. Now, whoever has done this to this poor sweet hedgehog, will eventually pay for this because I have reported this to the police and they are taking it very seriously. If you witness anything like this, even from your window, you need to ring the police, 999, and they will respond immediately, the penalty for wildlife crimes are very high.
Grace did nothing to deserve this appalling treatment, her treatment for balloon syndrome was very intense, she never cried out or complained either, I hope the youths that did this are found and punished for their actions. Grace is pictured above.
On a brighter note, I would like to thank Deborah and Gordon for saving Harriet, she was taken to Sore Paws Vets then came here, she is doing very well and enjoys her food, she can’t be released because she has some missing spines, they were also kind enough to make a donation, they were really quite taken by her, she is very lovely, bless her. In fact, they all are. Also, a debt of gratitude to Angela and staff of Grange Vets, their support helps me save a lot of hedgehogs.
Please come and see me at Tesco on Saturday 1st June, part of what I do is raise awareness and, more importantly, funds, my standards are very high and these standards keep these lovelies alive and well, but it’s very expensive.
