Firstly and, very importantly, overwintering hedgehogs has come to an end. I would like to ask everyone to bear in mind that there are hedgehogs in your gardens and they make very impressive nests, which is why I appeal to everyone to please check their gardens before using anything like forks, strimmers or anything at all that can seriously injure or kill these beautiful inoffensive mammals.
My rescue has released four so far, Spike, Paul, Poppy and Pixie have been released to live their best lives. I have put some time, care and everyone’s donations to give them their second chance at life and what I don’t want is for them to get hurt, we throw enough at them in the first place!
Sports nets, football nets when finished with need lifting six inches off the ground, ponds where a hedgehog wants a drink need a safety ramp just in case they fall in and, finally if you have any poisons like the ones that became illegal, in your shed, please get rid of them, if you want to get rid of slugs organically, there are other wildlife friendly alternatives.
Can I thank everyone for the get well wishes, cards, presents and flowers were all beautiful, Jaqui and family, June and Joyce, I am making a good recovery but I have a bit to go yet.
Can I finally thank Neil for taking the time and the trouble to collect hoggies for release, also Elaine and Angela of Grange Vets for their continued support.
Tip of the week: Out in the day not OK is what we need to remember if we see a hedgehog which is by nature nocturnal. If you see one out in the day, you need to ring
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society on 01584 890801 for a local list of rescues.
Thank you.
