As part of the “Rail Cameramen” exhibition events programme, Locomotion is hosting a talk “The Bahamas Story” by Peter Skellon of the Bahamas Locomotive Society.
The free talk, on Thursday March 1 at 1.45pm, will provide a brief history of the LMS Jubilee 4-6-0s and No. 45596 in particular – its purchase in 1967 by the Bahamas Locomotive Society; the creation of the Dinting Railway Centre as its home; and the move to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in 1990.
The talk includes some background to the fitment of its double chimney in 1961, the last experiment undertaken by British Railways on its fleet of steam locomotives. It also includes some details of the current overhaul, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which is due for completion and return to the main lines end of Spring 2018.
It’s free to attend the talk, but seats are limited, and tickets must be pre-booked – for more information, or to book, please call 01904 685780.
The Bahamas Locomotive Society is a sponsor of “Rail Cameramen”, an exciting new exhibition featuring the photographic artistry of many of the UK’s leading railway photographers, and will be on show at Locomotion until 4th March.
