Dear Editor,
I have been delivering the Newton News for about 5 years now, but this week I have resigned to start my life at University and a part time job.
I felt it would be right for me to thank the residents on my paper routes for their kindness, for their friendly company, and for their generousness over the past years.
During my time delivering the Newton News I have not only met some wonderful people in Aycliffe but I have had the privileged of getting to know many individuals, even seeing families grow, and the school children grow up at both Woodham Academy and Vane Road Primary School.
It’s heart warming in some ways knowing that residents of Aycliffe do show they care for the paper deliverers of the Newton News. There are many memories I have had while delivering papers, some bad but the majority good, and I am sad to be leaving.
In some ways I will miss all residents; the ones that waved hello and gave me a thumbs up through their window, the dog walkers, the children playing in the street and even singing songs, and the lovely people who even thought about me at Christmas.
To whoever takes over my paper routes, you will soon realise how lovely these people are. I can remember when I started and asked one local for help with my map, now we are on first name terms and ask about each other’s day when I hand over their paper.
I have made some wonderful friendships with the people on these routes and I would like to say a big thank you to them all for making my route a little brighter, despite the weather conditions.
Kind regards,
Gemma Howarth
