A litter campaign by Durham County council is scheduled to run throughout August this year with three specific aims:
• To raise awareness of the problems that car thrown litter causes.
• To encourage more people to dispose of litter from their vehicle responsibly.
• To reduce the amount of car thrown litter in specific hot spot areas.
Five areas in the south of the County have been identified and will be regularly monitored and patrolled by Neighbourhood Wardens and the Police to identify individuals throwing litter from their vehicles.
Tesco, Newton Aycliffe have agreed the Council can come into their store to set up an information stand on the premises and talk to customers about car litter on Tuesday 13th August 2013 12.30 – 3.30pm
Customers will be asked to sign a pledge not to throw litter from their vehicle.
Free Car Litter Bags and car window sticker will be isssued.
A Neighbourhood Warden will talk with people explaining the problems of car thrown litter and Fixed Penalty Notices.
