When the call went out to the community to get behind the MRI Scanner Appeal and help replace outdated and privately owned equipment in Darlington and Bishop Auckland Hospitals, supermarket giant Tesco showed they are local too, pledging a mammoth fundraising weekend across the Bank Holiday dates of 26th/27th/28th and 29th May, in 24 of their stores. The Aycliffe store baked cakes to sell and Hot dogs to eat and did a roaring trade, rasing £840 thanks to the generosity of customers.
Some did not want to buy these goods but still contributed to this very worthy cause which will save our local NHS Trust a £million a year! Also introduced to the Aycliffe store is a Raffle with a new Vauxhall Car as first prize. You can buy a ticket from customer services counter for a £1. Area Managers Jason King and Peter Shaw said ‘We all know someone who has needed an MRI Scan, including our own employees. We understand it’s a massive undertaking to try and raise such a substantial amount of money to replace the old scanners with state of the art technology, but as our strap line says ‘every little helps’ so we pulled together to help this worthwhile cause.’
