Dear Sir,
As a local carer I have heard a number of complaints from clients I look after about receiving phone calls asking for their bank details.
The scam is the man with an Irish accent and said that the council had sold the banding rights for council tax to estate agents and as soon as the lady said the Council hadn’t said anything to her the man hung up.
Two days later a woman phones and says you may have paid too much council tax as the council sold banding rights to estate agents and that your property may have been banded wrongly and you could be due a refund. All they need you to confirm is your full postal address, telephone number and bank details and where you want the refund paid to.
When the lady questioned this the caller hung up so she tried to dial 1471, but it was a withheld number.
Please be aware of this scam currently circulating.
